Why do most seem to hate EGB?

I finally saw the EGB show back in 1999, my brother and I loved the cartoon. We thought is was a worthy follow up to the RGB series. What we don't understand is usually seeing responses on these boards where most fans don't seem to like it. Why is this?
We thought it was very gross for a cartoon for any kid to watch. It was quite more gory than RGB bigtime. I mean creatures came out of Egons face in that first story. There are so many others eps where it was really gory. Maybe thats why it was called Extreme Ghostbusters.
I just have one question, I beleieve we missed one episode. Was wondering since Samhain is in the opening credits did he show up on one episode of EGB?

I certainly don't wanna speak for everyone since I know theres people who feel different about it 
I think being let down with no new GB movie after this series with a new team came out kinda brought people down too. I thought the jokes on RGB had a lot more wit to them as they were adults and the RGBs were overall more solid characters.
I remember when people even complained about the laziness of EGB artists that there wasn't even a ghost in the symbol some times. I really liked a lot of things the show tried to do. Like you said there was definetly a darker somewhat gruesome style with EGB.
It didn't seem to come out with the same impact RGB did. It did make our heros the RGBs look pretty pathetic in some scenes in "Back in The Saddle" It just had a lot of hype behind it(much like Episode 1 SW)it had a lot of expectations not to mention it had to come after the great SW movies before it. So RGB as its predecessor kinda set the standard for what people expected from it.
I still thought it was overall a solid series though..

Where to begin....
The new team was basically a couple of teen punk versions of the originals...
The animation was CRAP.....
PLASMA Blasters? Oh, COME ON!
Ecto-1 looked TERRIBLE!
Flickering during firing the blasters- WTF is up with THAT?!
You REALLY don't want me to go on....

I like EGB alot, not as much as RGB but its cool and its worth watching. I do understand the part about it sucks that we had a new cartoon but no new movie.

I think it wasn't that bad, it introduced a lot of youngsters to Ghostbusters. But a lot of fans of Ghostbusters didn't think it was necessary.

There's nothing wrong with EGB, it's just not quite the same as the RGB, the only problem was that the kids didn't have a movie to go up with it so to them, they just thought of it as your ordinary cartoon show. Evolution, it had it's movie first, and then the show came, but I don't think that it lasted. So maybe the movie consept won't make a great difference

the reason egb is frowned upon is that it can never live up to standard of rgb. egb had characters we didn't know. we fell in love with the guys and here there are 4 new kids we don't even know. if it was the junior ghostbusters then we would have been able to become at lot more attached. the egb had new equipment, new ghosts that didn't seem half as cool as rgb and the animation didn't have the same feel as rgb. and guess what, im one of the people who loved egb, so i can only imagine what things are said by those who hated it.

I definetly agree...I tried to get to know the characters but they never seemed to develop the strong personalities and character traits the RGBs had. I liked EGB though it just fell short of the kind of things RGB did in the mid-late 80s. Where RGB characters each came to have seperate identities EGB can be sadly be summed up as the latino guy, black guy, goth chick and wheelchair guy. I do really like the series though...a modern spin on Ghostbusting.

ESPECIALY WHEN THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS CAME BACK FOR TWO FINAL EPISODES ON THE EGB SERIES

I haven't seen many episodes of the new one, but I must share the story.
My friend and I, who are the only 2 GB fanatics in my small town, came rushing over with the first episode of EGB that he had taped. He never watched it, just timer taped it so we could watch it together. After it was done, we looked at each other much like the RGB do sometimes, and simultaneously shook our heads. Bad animation, bad plot, little comedy, unlikeable, unmemorable characters, the whole lot. Needless to say he taped every episode he could thereafter. For posterity's sake, since we are true GB fans ;-)

I only liked it for one reason: that it bring back the original RGB, but did it? Hell no!
Otherwise, I hated it...most of the episodes (that I watched) were somewhat of a spin-off from the RGB episodes. Plus the Back in the saddle episodes made the RGBs look very very old nad stupid..that really pissed me off..but yeah..and for all the reasons that the others here have said

Reasons why I don't like EGB:
Bad animation
No Stay Puft
No Boogieman
No Samhaine
The concept of Slimer losing wieght
Doesen't connect to the movies in any way

EGB was cool, but was not even camparable to The Real Ghostbusters. It was nice to see a new installment on the ghostbusters, but it wasn't as original as Real ghostbusters. Extreme ghostbusters would've been better if it kept the whole original team. The last two episodes were the best because it contained the original ghostbusters. Though The Real Ghostbusters episodes were stopped being made in 1991 or so, Extreme ghostbusters made the original ghostbusters age alot in just 6 years. Obviously Real Ghostbusters was alot better since it was on the air for 5 years or so and Extreme ghostbusters for about just one.
