Ok for all you DVD owners of Ghostbusters Im sure you have seen the 9 or so deleted scenes they have on the special features section of the DVD my question is do you think they should of keept some of those scenes in and if so which ones? i think they should of keept the one with bill murry and dan Aykroyd dressed up as bums walking through central park when Louis comes running through the park being chased by the "Terror Dog"

I think they should've kept the one where the hotel guests saw the ghost problem, Slimer. That sure would've hinted more of the problem about the hotel.
I think the Stay Puft hat should've stayed (although it doesn't look as good). I think the "bums" one was too much of an in joke and was probably cut for that reason.
What I'd like to see are the 2 deleted scenes that didn't make it on the DVD. I've read this on these boards that the GB laserdisc got these scenes. After the three are cut from the university they are walking down stairs while Egon is eating a Nestle Crunch bar. And another is where Ray and Winston handle they're own case ( is this one true?). I didn't know about this one.
But why aren't they on the DVD? Would've been great if Ivan Reitman put commentary why the scenes were cut like he did on Evolutions.
And of course the GB2's cut scenes would be nice TOO!

I dont have the gb1 dvd what were the deleted sceens?

I liked the little part before the boys went to Gozar, you know, firing up the Ecto-1 and the military getting ready.

(hopefully thats correct... It's been awhile since I saw the DVD)

I think most of them while funny where rather unneccessary given they had plenty of good material already. The book Making Ghostbusters talks about why they were cut I think. Maybe some of the DVD commentary too. Most of the time it seemed to be just the pace of the movie and stuff that slowed it down.
Like the last bit on the roof with Louis asking if he and Dana did it. Ivan Reitman said the movie was over and it was time to end it and it wasn't needed. Or they thought that the audience would be left wondering why Stantz and Venkman were dressed up as bums. 
Looking back even for being 1984 the Stay Puft hat looked pretty corny  You would just assume the hat was part of him and not a real hat...hehe

I thought that all but the Stay Puft Hat scene could have stayed. I loved the one at the University;
Ray -"You said you FLOORED them."
Peter-"Ray...I apologize"
I disagree with the hat....it justed looked too "homemade movie-ish."

The bums scene was something that was kind of an inside joke from Saturday Night Live, so I'm glad they cut that one, it wasn't very funny anyway..actually i think the only deleted scene that they should have kept was the hotel scene..

Yeah that was definetly one of the ones that I thought could've stayed. The hotel couple. I seem to remember Reitman saying he knew it was one of the funniest things in the movie but watching it in the film it slowed it down every time...cutting it was one of the hardest decisions he had to make

They should have left the Hotel scene, and maybe the Fort scene.
The Hotel scene had really bad acting though, and I don't think that peticular one would have been good, but if they re-did it.

The one where Winston suggests they go to Indonesia or somewhere till it blows over definetly wasn't neccessary at that point the audience doesn't want to see them afraid
Off the subject I've been recently wondering, during the montage scene, where you see Egon coming out with a trap looking for Ray and Peter are we to assume he caught a ghost by himself?

I think these scenes should've been kept:
1. The extended scene when they are being fired from the university
2. The alternate scene when Peter is talking to Dana in her apartment
3. The scene when Bill and Dan are dressed like bums
4. The forte scene with Ray and Winston (the movie should've had atleast three busting scenes)
5. The scene right after they talk to the mayor
6. The scene when Winston suggests they skip town (I thought it was pretty funny)
7. The scene when Stay Puft's hat floats down
