The dreaded Mary Sue, I have noticed the odd Mary Sue lurking on the boards, can I please ask people if they have Mary Sues to either change them or not submit them, they can be annoying if the main new charater is completely and blatently based off the writer, and they have a relationship with a major charater. There are some Mary Sues which are okay, however unless done right, they just proove annoying, to find out how to avoid the Mary Sue curse look at the website that had the original Ghostbusters Fact List.

The Real Ghostbusters Mary Sue Litmus Test

Mary Sue -- a name that strikes fear into the hearts of fanfic readers everywhere. With this simple test, you can evaluate your original character a determine their rating on the Mary Sue scale.

The character has an unusual name or appearance
The character is named after you (first, middle, nick and net names all count.)
The character is stunningly attractive or handsome.
The character has an unusual hair/eye/skin color for no apparent reason
The character knows more about the supernatural than any of the guys.
has magical or supernatural powers
The character is non human
The character is a member of secret society concerned with the occult
Each and every major event in the story involves the original character for some inexplicable reason
Because the character has a habit of finding the solution to all the guys' problems.
And the guys congratulate the character for their bravery/ quick-thinking/etc.
and the guys make the character a Ghostbusters for no apparent reason.
The character is liked and respected by most or all of the Ghostbuster characters.
Immediately.
After proving themself.
Is only dislike by characters you don't like or don't enjoy writing.
The character manages to become involved with an extremely dangerous case.
And is saved by all the guys who are falling over themselves with concern
Or saves all the guys singlehandedly
and immediately dies after the rescue.
The character is in love with one of the guys.
Who happens to be your favorite.
And the love is reciprocated.
Any canon rivals for his affections are mysteriously absent or considered unattractive by him.
Another original character was created simply to distract the canon love interest
Or causes two or more canon characters to fight over them
Or matchmakes shamelessly and with complete success.

Like I said, there are some Mary Sues which are okay.
My official defination of a Mary Sue (differs from the one posted on the link)
my definition of a Mary Sue is the author, creating a charater specifically for either becoming a know-it-all do gooder and to have a romance with one of the Ghostbusters
However, I didn't want to name names but a particular story going by the name of Foiled Again which I remember seeing on fanfic.net, is one example of the dreaded Mary Sue

The Ghostbusters.net Rules for a Mary Sue
Okay, I have decided to write a new chapter concerning Mary Sue...
1)The Defination (according to my opinion and incorporating GBN fics) is as follows:
A Mary Sue is a charater written by the author as an excuse to put themself into the GB universe, they usually have their real life name/description and personality. They also usually have some sort of relationship with one of the Ghostbusters, and get on well with the others, they also usually have been away doing some sort of thing along the lines of charity work, and are usually a friend of one of the existing cast. They also turn up suddenly from a place outside of local travel, usually another country.
2)One person based on the author is a Mary sue.
3)If there is a advisor included as a charater along with the writer then I concider this Mary Sue and Mary Beth.
4)If there is a third person with the writer and advisor then this is Mary Sue, Mary Beth and Cousin Sandra.
5)If there are four or more people based on real life people then the Mary Sue/Beth and Sandra rule is nullified.
6)To avoid the Mary Sue, the writer must give the new charaters new names, not the person's real life name.
7)The previous rule can be nullified if the new charaters do not share identical personalities, or do not look like how they appear in real life.
8)Such things as the charaters of Nightsquad, GBUK and NOMAD do not count under the Mary Sue laws because the original cast members who started the universe only star in a few stories.
9)Such stories as All Roads Lead to Raccoon City While having an original cast member, does not have a Mary Sue. The two new charaters are only loosly based on their real world counterparts and there is only one member of the original cast.
10)If there are four or more charters based on real life people then they can have similar personalities and have their names, however this is only in effect if there are four or more real life charaters, if there are three or less then this rule is nullfied and the first four rules apply.
This set of rules will go through a revison, and I'm not totally sure they completely make sense.
