Hmm, as I'm not an expert on English, I'm not totally sure if the rules make a whole lot of sense, any thoughts Vincent?

I say that the "Mary Sue" concept is something to play by ear....er....by eyes. 
That's why, as temps, you and Sinister are being nominated by myself as my "voting comittee." We'll vote if something is pushing the envelope.
I've seen Mary Sue work here. I've approved some (begrudgingly).
We'll vote from now on, deal?

As someone mentioned my 'Foiled Again' story, perhaps the mods could take it off, if it's proving to be too much of a bone of contention. Thx.
I've not long been writing fan fic and it's a method of writing that I've kinda fallen into. Mainly because I find it easy to base characters around myself - as I know me best - as least I hope I do!!  I don't think I put myself in the 'god' role though, just an ordinary 'folk off the street' is more 'me'!!
However if it's against the rules for this site, then I'll play ball - no ill feelings on my part.
That said, when I'm writing fic, I'm not trying to win any kind of award. I tend to go for pure entertainment value and feel that any story, as long as it's not so badly written that it doesn't make any sense, is acceptable to me.
I just like a good read, something that makes me laugh, cry etc. I'm sure you all know where I'm coming from.
After all the even most critically acclaimed stories can be dull and uninteresting, to me personally I mean. Someone else could read it and absolutely love it. The same can be said of movies, they're all stories at the end of the day.
Just my 'fourpeneth' anyway!

There is no need to remove it, while I am not a fan of Mary Sues, I am a fan of fan fiction, Hmm, maybe a small notice, something like This story is intended as a Mary Sue. However I'll let you be the judge of that. I am far to critical of people's work, as a fellow author I respect you calm approach to this, as the standard practice might have been to explode in my face.
As I said, my only suggestion is to maybe add a author's note or a sort of note saying it is a Mary Sue, if you wish not to I will not hold anything against you, I wish you luck in any future work Clare.

No need to, if you do wish to add a note then add it to future stories, any that are currently up do not need to be altered.

I actually don't mind Mary Sue's. I find them really amusing, especially the Harry Potter ones...some of those are hysterical.
Don't write them myself, though. I have a GB story in the outline stages that DOES have an original female character and I'm trying so hard not to make her an MS. She's nothing like me, not perfect (nowhere near), and a villainess. Hopefully she isn't an MS.

Here's my problem...
Becoming part of the Ghostbusters West Coast has put me in the position of writing a character explicitly based closely on my real self for the first time. My alter ego shares my name, birthday, and some personality quirks while being a lot smarter, more eduacted, and better looking than I am (I just found out how much better looking too!) The advantage of being part of a fan fic team, of course, is that I'll have guys like Kyleogb1983, Ludicris, and SpecterHarness to tell me "Dude, you're laying it on too thick..."
Edit Durn...Iain's right...I guess that means I don't have a problem...
