The Real Ghostbusters or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in the long run, which is bigger?!

The late 80's and early 90's were shaped by two cartoons in which children flocked to toy stores to buy everything there was of them. At the time The Real Ghostbusters was the biggest cartoon, then the wave of ninja took over as teenage Mutant Ninja turtles took control of every kid's mind and, in my opinion, single handedly ruined Ghostbusters for the time being. But when Ghostbusters was hot, it was hot! And when TMNT was hot, it was hot!
So this all leads us to this, now, 2003, over a decade later, which is bigger. Which one could you mention and people recite the theme song, or phrases from? Which one do you find is getting more publicity?
I ask this because I remember always seeing TMNT stuff at yard sales, always in the clearence aisle, always something happening about them, and with Ghostbusters, the franchise seemed to have stopped caring, sure EGB would show up for a year or less.
And with a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show coming out, and Ghostbusters now where to be seen in the public eye, I leave the decision in your hands.

I liked TMNT more as a child. It was always my favorite and most of my friend's favorites as well. Both are good cartoons, but I'd have to go with TMNT.

I don't know. But I do know that you could find TMNT stuff more recently for two reasons: 1. They were still being made after RGB toys were. 2. They did a rerelease of alot of their toys just a couple of years ago.

I'd have to go with the TMNT on this one, actually tmnt came out the same time as RGB I think, and if you notice, ghostbusters had about 2 waves maybe 3, tmnt had like 20. All those damn variants of the turtles.
The turtles property made more money I'm sure, but does popularity really deem which property is better?
Example, Ghostbusters vs. YuGiOh or PokEmon

It's hard to say. They both started at the same time. The TMNT comic was first published in 1984, which of course is when Ghostbusters was released. As for popularity...I can't say. When the Turtles got a toon, they really took on a younger audience and never regained the older audience that the comic acquired. RGB appleaed to everyone and in some ways was more adult than GB2 so I don't think GB isn't as big as TMNT. GB's got the bigger audience.

ID have to go with Ghostbusters. TMNT while very big did always have toys out and on clearence, mostly because, when the show began to die down people lost intrest quick. RGB never really had that problem, when the show stopped the toys were gone and quick. I remmber RGB haveing a whole aisle dedicated to it in most toy stores, constantly haveing to be restocked. Even though TMNT had three movies the third bombed and is basicly hated by many, the second did well for a sequal about the same as GB2 and the first never did top GB. For some reason though TMNT was always givin a second chance, each one failing worse then the last. Now with the new show its doing good; but GB is makeing a comeback as well. Ghostbusters has alot more out there as well, stuff thats incredible to find. With the song, lines, and characters still being known by kids who are only five now says alot.

This is a really hard question. Both franchises had cartoons, comics, toys, and movies (though the Turtles had one more than GB). I glory in my bias so I'll say Ghostbusters was bigger.

I do like ghostbusters, but Ninja Turtles was bigger. They lasted about 10 years. They had a BIG line of action figures, toys, 3 movies, creal and more. The toy line for ninja turtles I think is bigger.

TMNT, simply because of A) recence and B) it's managed to get in the revival with its toon sooner than the GB did with its comic. Plus, I always had more TMNT stuff than I did GB...=\

GB for the simple that TMNT keeps changing it's target audience.
The TMNT comic was originally for mature readers. Then came a cartoon, strictly for children. Then the true comic got cancelled a children's version was released. Then came the movie for more mature viewers. Then the cartoon was super-popular, and all the marketing went to the kids. The second two movies show this downward evolution. Now, ten years later, they try and bring it back for mature readers with a new comic that totally rocks. And they follow it up with a children's cartoon. Bleeech.
I'll stick with consistency thanyouverymuch. I think that's what other people want as well. Adults don't want to see dumbed-down children's versions of their favorite characters, and kids don't want to not be able to see parts of their favorite characters.
In GB, the characters stayed relatively consistent, throughout each film and series.

I hate to say it, but I think I'm going to have to go with the Turtles...at least, possibly, until the GB revival stuff actually starts to come out.

The turtles definately have a bigger toyline, have you ever gone to ebay?
I never had man ghostbusters as a kid either.
The old comic did not get cancelled because the kiddie comic came out, they both ran at the same time, and now the original comic is in volume 4, still continuing.
The new cartoon is definately not aimed at just kids, it's aimed for everyone, and so far it's doing really good.
Of course the ghostbusters movies did better than the turtles movies, that's what the ghostbusters started with and did exceptional with. The cartoon or toy line will probably never top the turtles, but I think the ghostbusters movie is a classic.
I think the turtles are more recognized in the civialized world, but here's the really really hard question:
Which theme song was better, the Original Turtles Cartoon, or the Ghostbusters theme.
