A convention or 'gathering' would be an excellent idea if some of us could afford to attend in whatever state it might be in. I'm having enough trouble arranging to go to Chiller this year
Old Idea that needs new concept, good to hear someone is still thinking about it

Allright, see the thing is, is that I want to try and make it more than something just plain old at a bingo hall in the middle of Iowa or something. What about a hotel ballroom. Just for one night it wouldnt be that expensive.
And the thing is if we only did it once it wouldnt seem like a such a large expense. Like it would seem more important if we actually did do it maybe once every 5 years or something if we actually did it a first time. We would have to get a site or page going and have people sign up with where would be the closest for the most people to be able to travel to.
New York would be the coolest but might not be the most practical. I do think we would have enough people to actually have a convention though and not just a "gathering" as some of you put it. I may be thinking to big but it would be cool. As far as other convention posts go. Ive been coming here on a frequent basis since last october(I got a late start on joining because I didnt know the site had finally relaunched) but I havnt ever seen a convention post since then.

this is getting exciting now.
what we need is somebody to do a list on the site or give an email adress where everyone interested could post ideas and stuff....
as for location, the east coast (preferably NY) would be best for people overseas (like us europeans or wherever)for cost, distance and practical reasons....
as for contacting Dan, Reitman, Ramis or anyone, does anyone know a good way?
keep posting and let's get this done...
and anyway, GB was in NY, we should be there too....

A GB convention, with all of us is near impossible....Think, we are spread out across teh world. Some of us can't drive. It would be our best bet to invade big conventions in regional groups. IE: Ghoost-Heads from Alabama, Floridia, Georgia, Tenesse, S.+N. Carolina might get togther and go to DragonCon in Atlanta.

Rather than try to put together a Ghostbusters Convention specifically, why not check out local Sci-Fi conventions and get a group together to go. You can usually get a room at the host hotel in an area where the convention is having movie rooms (just ask someone with the convention ahead of time) and show the movies and cartoons for the length of the Con. If you've got several people together to pay for the room, it shouldn't be that expensive. Just have someone bring a VCR/DVD player and all their videos and DVDs. I plan on at least attending CoastCon in Biloxi, Miss. and if we can get it running in time, we might bring our EctoMobile. So, if there is anyone in the area going to CoastCon, let me know. I just wanna throw this into the mix...
On one occasion when this topic was raised a few years ago, I did a search on the net for possible venues in NYC. A lot of people like the idea of staying at the Algonquin Hotel (Sedgewick), but their current rates are like $200+ US Dollars a night.
I found a better, smaller, hotel right near the Firehouse in Tribeca that would be ideal for a small weekend convention. It's called the Cosmopolitan. Rates are more reasonable in comparison to other New York Hotels, and if you wanna bunk up with another Ghosthead it'll be even cheaper (about $75 per night).
Not sure what their facilities are in regards to halls or rooms, but hotels usually have a few rooms of varying sizes to choose from to hold conventions. Otherwise another idea would be to just get the Ghostheads to register with the Con organiser if they wanna sell stuff, let everyone else know what they're selling and set up a mini-stall in their hotel room.
Now, I'm down with Dane's idea of a Ghosthead gathering in 2004. Sounds like the perfect opportunity for me for a USA vacation! Hey, I'll even be able to stop over in LA for another trip to Fire Station 23 Hell, even if there's no convention I'll be there in 2004, willing to meet up with any ghosthead for a beer bender anytime, hehe.

Optimus,
Florida! See you there man. I've been to Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Orlando. But being a BIG Miami Vice fan I was pissed when I missed out on seeing Miami. I'd better brush up on my Spanish first, coz I hear you'd have a hard time getting around if you don't speak the language.
Guys, I'm from Sydney Australia, but I've been to the US and Canada twice in the '90s. North America is a great place to visit. Sometimes people can't understand my accent, but I found I could understand Americans perfectly (except the southerners, had a hard time understanding them).
The main reason I wanna go back is to see the Fire stations again. I've got all the contacts now to get an inside peak at the LA station, so I'm gonna be there to take measurements, videos, photos, everything!
See ya's there.

If people want this to be done on the Anniversary. It should be in June. College kids are off and its warm. If we did this, they could start saving now. All it takes is organization. I would personally recommend somewhere in Wisconsin or Michigan. Its a central region that is accessible from both Canada and the US. Between both coasts. And cheap, cheap, cheap.

Central America... concentrate on the American Ghostheads (Sorry foreigners... it's just not practical)...
If I show up, I sure as heck don't want to talk about GB though. Let's get drunk and play foosball.
