Your best bet is to poll the crowd on a few things - if the gathering was in their city would they go. If it was a drive away? A flight? Overseas? What city are you in? What city are you nearest? What convention (from the list) are you nearest?

Once you have that information, you won't just be guessing or taking shots in the dark.

It could turn out to be that nobody is in a position to fly to another city. It might turn out to work best if it were several small gatherings at a handful of conventions in various cities. It may mean that only a small handful get to do like D says, and tour various locations, but if it's successful, then it's a sure thing, that if someone were to fly in the next year, they could go on the tour too.

Fans might also want to consider just attending their local con in costume nad provide a cool GB presence.

i think smaller get togethers would be better. if they are fun, larger events could be planned. maybe have members of the cast/crew give lectures. anyway, if something larger is planned first, i think members would be MUCH more likely to fly/drive to NY or LA that to like chicago or somewhere. both NY and LA have much more GB related things to offer than ANY other city.

I think we should plan one for 2004. The 20th anniversary year. It would give us time to plan alot better and make travel plans and such. I would much rather concentrate on getting it together for 2004 because although I do think a GBCon hooked up with one of the bigger Cons is possible, I know its gonna take alot of planning and work.

We should definetly start small. There's really no point in dreaming about a huge convention with 6890 ghostheads in the firehouse in NY. DaneGB, I agree with you; that's a great idea having it on the anniversary date in summer of 2004, but if we're having a convention it must be planned pretty soon. I'd organise it, mind you, but I'm a good couple of hundred miles away from civilisation (Newfoundland).

I like the idea as well of having it in a hotel ballroom or something like that. We should take a list of all people interested and sell so many tickets only in advance so that the venue isn't blocked. And speaking of venues, Jesusfreak had a good point - one place that everyone in the world will have to meet at isn't very practical. New York is a good idea in terms of being faithful to the franchise, but it's not the safest place. I'd doubt that all ghostheads would feel secure flying to NYC. Perhaps one or two locations in each country. (May I suggest Toronto once again, alongside Lobber and GBFreak?) Jay Tigran, where art thou?? Canadian Ghostbusters unite!!

And just a note, once we have the place booked and the event promoted, it's all easy sailing from there. We won't need to plan a whole lot of activities - just everyone on this board chatting as we do now will certainly kill some time!

P.S. - Roshangar, don't worry about getting quotes correct, I've been screwing up qutoes for a good 8 months now!

Taking into consideration on actual places of filming from the movie, here are some (specific) places from both NYC and LA:

NYC:
New York Public Library
City Hall
Columbia University
Tavern on the Green
Central Park West
Columbus Circle

LA:
(a downtown) LA firehouse
MacArthur Park
Biltmore Hotel

(source: insert in GB1 DVD)

I just thight it might be helpful in considering where to go if one of these two cities were selected.

ps. Also if we wanted to see if we could go check out studios and sound stages where parts were filmed, that'd be neat, too

in addition to the above

NY-
planet hollywood

LA-
sony prop house
soundstage

though we might not could even see some of the places like the LA firehouse, soundstage ,and prop house, they are just ideas. also, the number in attendance would probably be VERY low, so it's feasible to think that we MIGHT get to view some things not readily accesible to the lone fan. smile

I'm still favoring Chicago. I would like to take the time to ask for some of the older members of the boards, Back, Zack, Chad, other mods or older guys who think its a good idea. Your help as well would be appreciated.

not really sure that the mods would be in charge of it. besides, i've been around since the GBcentral days. i'm seriously thinking about organizing something for spring of summer 04.

i think LA or NY would attract more fans, and be more likely to fly/drive to it. chicago doesn't really have much GB related things to offer. i'm really favoring more towards LA. i've got probably 2 crew members, and one producer that would be willing to talk or lecture about the making of the films, stories from the set, etc. also in LA, there are 2 nice '59 based ecto replicas (joesph and venkman71).

i can see this being a small gathering, maybe in a small hotel banquet room. we could display replica props, costumes, and fan art. many users here have original peices from the films, like props, scripts, concept art, storyboards, set peices, etc. those would be GREAT to display. we could have fan-fic discussion or reads. prop/costume vendors could set up booths displaying their peices, and maybe even give demonstrations and building tips. if we were lucky, we might could get a local theater to have a late night GB screening.

Not organizing it, but just suggesting ideas and talking about it, cause it appears that only like maybe 10 of us care.
