That's exactly why I suggested that people interested organize something small in conjunction with a bigger convention - that way, even if it is only a handful of people (plus everyone already at the con who will likely be interested in getting in on some of the fun), it's still a success.
If these smaller gatherings are a success, then more people might be interested in making the trip to join the following year's - and so on.
If you can't find a couple of dozen people in your city who want to hang out at a con and talk Ghostbusters, you're doing something wrong.

Just for a few minutes, I'm going back to the idea of a big convention in LA or NYC. I had an idea last night that if we do go somewhere big like those places for a GB convention, we could all have t-shirts that are for the event. I made some sketches of ideas of how they could look. If you want to see them, I can put them up on the web and let me know what you think. If you don't like that idea at all, just let me know. I think it'd be kinda cool. If one of us could get connections to have them made if we decided to do it, that'd be great.
Also, I was thinking if we had a big convention in LA, an idea for a main gathering place (like for the speakers, lecturers, etc.) could be at the House of Blues. Since Dan Aykroyd goes there and runs the place, I think that'd be a good place. Let me know what you think.

Ya know what would be cool, possibly, have a date, and maybe meet at 4 places on the anniversary of the release of GB in 1984.
Chicago
LA
New York
Toronto
And than maybe come up with some way for all 4 to communicate between each other and all watch GB at the same exact time regardless of Time Zone so like 8 East Coast, 7 Midwest, and 5 in the West.
Once again, just an idea.

I'm gonna look at the Cons in the list castewar posted and post the ones I find in the four cities suggested. People can then voice their opinions as to which one they would rather attend. Some might prefer New York, some LA. We don't all have to meet in one place.
Lets keep this going! Its so great to see renewed enthusiasm for this!
PS: I agree that it would be good to have more mods sound off on this besides castewar. And it would be super if the almighty Chad would voice his opinion.

If we wanted to show the movies in a party room at larger convention that does not show movies, we would need a projector. I don't think it would be a problem for somebody to bring a DVD player but a projector is a different story.
Ideas?

Doing a lot of little gatherings for this all over the country may work for some people...
BUT...
...here is why I think we should have one big one.
How many times does the 20th anniversary for something happen?
ONCE!
Look at all of us who are so hyped up about this! We aughta do something big. Something REALLY big! If we don't do it next year, we're gonna have to wait another 5 years to do something like that. And who knows where we'll be then? (we'll all still be Ghostbuster crazy, of course ) You see what I mean? We aughta go for it! YEAH!

I think everyone here would agree with you Ernie, but that's next year. There's no reason that people can't get in the swing of things, or try and learn more about organizing a convention this year, only on a smaller scale.
To that end, and since you've all started posting your locations already, I direct your attention here.
Ghostbuster 2003 Convention and Conventiongoers Map
By the end of the day today I'll have the conventions added. Feel free to add yourself if you're interested in representing GB at a convention this year - and once you get an idea of who's nearby, you can consider organizing something at the conventions.

I added my info and idea there I think it would be cool to do one there's a big comuc/anime/sci fi show in toronto in august 25, 26 27 (friday saturday and sunday) mybe we can all meet there and have a good time! as the event comes closer i'll post more info about excatlly were it is and how much the show is. if anyone is intrested let me know! and rember am ready to belevie you!!
