why do some people hate GB2?

There is quite a bit that got replaced with the Songs. You can listen and see the film moments in your head the music was such a prt of the first film
If you want the two films back to back (second one first) you will see that the second one is a bacis re do of the first film, ALSO if you read teh script in teh making Ghostbusters book (or the earlier draft I have) you will see a lot of the parts cut from the GB script appear in the second film. Example: the begining of the commercial in the secont film was written for the begining of the commercial in the first and cut. The fur coat coming alive and attacking it's wearer is in an early draft of the first film.
The second film was made with the RGB fans in mind NOT the people that flocked to see the first film in theatres in 1984
That is why it took me so long to actually like it (just a little bit) When I went (In Costume) to see GB2 in Hollywood at the Chinese Theatre on opening night I felt cheated I was not interested in seeing a Live action version of the cartoon and that is what I got.
The several times I visited the GB2 set and watched filming it looked like they were going to do a great sequel to the first film and I guess I saw what I wanted to.
Best day on set: I was standing behind Ivan Reitman while they were filming a pick up scene of "Dana" watching the Ghostbusters new TV spot. (The comercial in its entirety is funnier than you can imagine!) I was trying so hard not to laugh during the take I was shaking! Mr Reitman turned around saw me laughing silently (barely!) and got a huge smile on his face! I thought that was pretty cool!

I enjoyed hearing the upbeat "dance version" of the main title theme, I'm just glad it's not in the film  the one that Cleanin Up The Town replaces after "Get her!" also as heard in the track "Hard Work"

Why people hate GB2 is obvious: They compare to the original GB! It is great movie, and a heckuvalot better than most sequels, or even movies out there. Unfortunately, Ghostbusters was so epic, so great, that I have yet to see more than a few movies that have the same perfect blend of homur and horror. For those who would like to see a great movie, check out Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn. It's definitely not your standard horror movie (like the first was). But getting back to the GBs, it's all about the comparison. I mean sequels are usually crappy. Look at the list: Batman Forever & Batman & Robin (worst movie EVER), Robocop 2 & 3, Superman 4, Ninja Turtles 3 (I don't think 2 is that good either, but that's debatable as it too was geared towards kids just like GB2)., and last but not least, Return of the Killer Tomatoes. I could go on forever...Just remember sometimes sequels can be great. X2 is coming out soon (That's X-Men 2 for those who don't know) and hopefully it will be as great as the first. I mean it's got Nightcrawler! And cameos by Gambit and The Beast. GB3 would be awesome, and they don't have to start with an out of business storyline either. They could just be getting ready to retire and have to bust one last demigod before they quit. But alas, it'll probably never happen.

GB2 would have been as good as teh first...but they're some people called editors who ruin films....

Dude Joseph....youre lucky. I wouldve given almost anything to be on the set. Did you ever actually get to meet Ivan or any of the actors?

Personally I like the second one better but that's just me. I do admit that it was almost an exact copy of the first only with a few twists. And now that I think of it, the Statue of Liberty scene was dumb.I can see why many people don't like it as much as the first but I think some people are out of line by saying it sucked. There has been worse sequels (movies in general for that fact). I also agree that the score for GB1 was much more thrilling. I especially missed the main title theme.

joseph- what earlier draft of the script do you have? i have an original third draft, desperately looking for a second.
i think everyone here nailed it, gb2 just wasn't as original. still cool though...

Everything could have been a lot better in my opinion with the missing scenes.
Instead of just the one encounter where Slimer eats Louis' lunch, the others should have been included to establish the rivalry between the two, leading up to Slimer helping Louis at the bus stop, rather than just having the one.
The Ray possessed by Vigo in the driving scene should have been used to help establish that Ray had been controlled instead of just using it the one time at the end. I think it would have meant more to the audience, by the final possession scene, people either forgot or didn't care that he possessed Ray before. That was pretty crappy the way they shoved it in the montage.
Notice how bad the transition is between Janine saying she's closing up and then immediately to her and Louis outside? Because the Louis trying to bust Slimer should have been used!

Whoever says they don't like GB2 because of the slightly recycled plotline is odd. These are probably the same people who say Evil Dead 2 is Better than 1, and Evil Dead 2 was just a re-make of the first, with enough differences to be a new movie. I say, if the plot works well the first time around, go for it and recycle it just like the Ghostbusters crew, and the Evil Dead crew. Long live these amazing films! and Led Zeppelin (sorry, just thought I'd say it)
