Yeah, I see alot on the boards about how much some hardened ghost-heads hated the second movie.

Would life be empty without GB2?

I loved the second! I think the ratings give it a bad image, hell, Evolution got better ratings, fo the life of me, I can't think of a pothead who would think Evolution was better than Ghostbusters 2.

1. too much like a live action RGB
2.Recycled format from the 1st movie

but I still enjoy Ghostbusters 2 tongue

its the EXACT same movie as Ghostbusters 1, formula wise. It is actually scary how exactly the same it is. im not gonna go into reasons, because id go on forever, but they obviously didnt go far from the mold.

Hey,

GB2 got it's charm as a movie. But the deadly sin is to slaughter the classical GB-theme song the way they did in the 2nd. When (no, not if. when!) the third ghostbusting movie excperience is here I demand that the theme-song is still there.

The story was step A on sequelers for dummies. Same story, new packaging. But hey! Who complains? You can never get to much ghostbusting served in your movies.

I'm not afraid!

Hey, makes sense to me. Frankly I think GB2 was quite good for a sequel and didn't entirely rehash the first film. The whole slime storyline and all the negativeness (is that a word?) in NYC was cool. I'm more afraid that GB3 would be rehash of GB2, I mean with the guys being out of buisness again.

Think about it, most movie sequels in a series aren't completely different. That's how you somewhat recognize it as that type of movie. tongue

There needs to be a compromise between same formula/something new, and while GB2 didn't quite hit that, it is still one of the best movie sequels out there. As biased as I may be, take a look at movie sequels, and then take a look at GB/GB2. You'll see that GB2 is pretty good compared to most.

For anyone that doesn't like GB2, I suggest watching Bobby J's Hero video at GBfans.com wink

Bobby J's music video rocked! I guess GB2's unpopularity was based on the know fact of it's rehashing GB. BUt it wasn't a terrible film, it did have it's moments.

I don't hate GB2. I like it a lot. It's just that I was dissapointed. I wanted a continuation of the first film's story, not a rehash of the same basic formula. Another thing that I felt was missing was the first film's edge. let's face it, GB2 seemed made more so with kids in mind than the first one. In GB, all the characters except Egon smoke, there's lots of sex jokes, There's cursing & violence and a certain maturity about it all. It was still a film for all ages, its just it had a definate grown-up feel to it.

The second one did not have that. It was more for kids who watched RGB. My main beef with any one point in the movie is when the Scoleri Brothers first appear, and Ray is under the table, he gets this goofy grin on his face and goes "Wow!" No one seemed overly concerned or frightened.

The biggest missing component in GB2? The score. I normaly like Randy Edlemen, I loved his DragonHeart score, but I think this movie is desperatly missing Elmer Bernstien's classic and intense score. Bernstien's score had a epic scope to it, the GB theme was wonderfully playful, and the intense moments of the movie were perfectly underscored with a sutibly intense score. Edlemen's was, well, bland. Unintresting. No theme, no beats that grab your attention or gets your pulse pounding. Seriously, I feel that what made the rooftop scene in GB so grand and climatic and epic was the score, and the perfectly gelling of well drawn characters and very real menace. GB2 did not have a very ominus villan. I think Vigo was an intresting villan, but by the halfway point we knew everything about him. That's the difference between GB and GB2. There was nothing ominus or intimidating about Vigo by the time the climax came, so when they beat him we were indifferent (not to mention they beat him way too easy.) With Gozer, we had no idea what he/she/it was going to look like, and even when she just vanished, you still had the feeling that there was something wrong, there was more menace to come.

There are moments in GB2 that recapture the magic of the first one-- I have always loved the courtroom battle with the Scoleri Brothers, and I love the river of slime, and there is a moment in the climax of GB2 that successfully recaptures the menace and darkness of the last one-- it's when Vigo possess Ray. That moment right there was an "oh, shit" moment. Of course, all the had to do was slime him & he was OK, so the instant tension created from the part was killed almost immediatly.

Don't get me wrong, I like GB2. I just wish it had been more than it was.

I always loved Randy Edelman's score, but can see where you're coming from. I always thought like the movie itself, the score was very triumphant and uplifting, I personally think Bernstein's particularly dark scary moments in the score were a little more menacing and angry sounding than GB2s "evil" themes which seem to be where Doug E. Fresh's "Spirit" is derived from. I think some people don't like the score because they're mad it was never released wink

Of course, I was just thinking about that scene a second ago. Weird. Where they're under the table and Ray says "Wow!" To me thats just the way Ray is, overenthusiastic, fascinated and intrigued by the paranormal too preoccupied to really notice how terrifying it is. Plus at this point, they've seen plenty of ghosts I'm sure. tongue

Actually Bernstien's score isn't that dark....just the parts they showed in the movie were dark.....
