Does your trap really have to open?

after due thought… does it really have to open? after all it can peform most visual neccicary functions when closed (smoking, blinking lights), although when it is opened it does look pretty cool none the less.smile the reason that im posting this is because im wondering, have any of you proppers out there build a trap that actually does open and close automatically after activating the foot pedal? to me, it seems almost impossible, thats probably because im not as experienced as the lot of ya. so to open or not to open? thanks.

lol ecto-3… very true. i actually think that in the original GB films the trap doors opening may have been a post production product. thats just the dvd talking frame by frame mind you. i could be horribly wrong though. but none the less i have come up with a nice lil' blue print on having my trap doors opening, manually of course. but theres alot more to it than meets the eye (i just need to get my hands on a bandsaw and i'll be set!). its basicallly a brand new trap in mid construction, im keeping it very light weight and durable. any other tips? thanks.

Maybe we can rig the trap with hydraulics and make it sing and dance to Jacky Wilson, just like the toaster!!! Minus the messy slime of course. Maybe a magic show on the side, I dont foresee a big profit on that one though. smile

I believe it should open and have a very bright light inside of it.

I gave this due thought when I was gonna build my trap…..to make it open what you ahve to do is:
#1 Make sure that the hose you run to the trap is hollow, and runs under the spring on the pedal(the ;arge one wrapped in the black material) so that there is part of the wire sticking out from the pedal, into the area the spring will cover. And into the trap, so it pokes out into the area the dorrs sit. (by doing this, you can't take the main part of the trap off the base.

#2 When you attach the spring, make sure that the material the spring is attached to it mounted firmly on the foot pedal and the base of the pedal wan air tight seal. Something like a glue gun should do the trick.

This way when you stomp on the foot pedal, the air under the foot pedal is sent out of the pedal via the tubing and into the trap, hopefully with enough force to open the trap doors. And when you step off the foot pedal, the air return to it's previous position under the foot switch.

i ahd my old one open, it was easy to do, i gave it to my bro in law, lol
what he basicly did is make a whole eletroic system for it, he made the doors open by servo's
