What is every one refering to when they say Mother Board do you mean that people get computer mother boards and stick them on the packs, also what is the alice pack.

I am new to Ghostbusters.net but I think I know enough. The alice pack you refeered to is actually a frame used on the back of the Proton Pack. The motherboard is the base piece of the Proton Pack, usually the 1/4 inch plywood that you start with in Norm's plans. I think that should do it. If I am wrong someone will correct me.

The Mother Board, or Mobo, or Main Board, can be described as the thing which everything attaches to. It is usually a plank of wood, which you attach all the boxes to. The originals were made of metal. A good example of a mother board can be found here, and it is shown in Stefan's plans here (click on motherboard).

The A.L.I.C.E. pack was used in the military to hold all their gear in. Some of these Alice packs had a metal frame. This frame, is attached to the “mother board” and is connected to your back. It is like a metal backpack, without the part that holds stuff. You can see the plans for a ALICE pack frame on Stefan's plans, here (click on Alice Pack).

There you go! Anyother questions?

Is can Hardboard wood be used? How do you get the woodgrain off do you sand it away or what?

Sanding works well, If I remember what hardboard is, it has a smooth side, and a rough side?

You could go over the rough side with some wood filler, or some bondo. It would make it very smooth. I went over my whole pack in wood filler, and it is turning out great!

If you can't really get away from the roughness.. use the hardboard where ever you don't see the rough side.

So you mean use the smooth side all the time and when you cant use wood filler.

i wouldnt reccomend using hardboard for your motherboard though, even 1/4 thick isnt very strong, if you plan on bolting/ or screwing things done it will weaken fast… use a stronger piece of wood for the motherboard, for the most part you wont even see it, but it just takes a lot of sanding and wood/drywall filler or some bondo…

Well remember, the mother board is also strengthened by the boxes (if one piece), and if you use a real ALICE pack. I plan on using 1/8" aluminum.

1/4" Lauan plywood does just fine, and if you know what you're doing when constructing the pack then you should be ok. If you want to be careful and spend a little extra cash then I would go with the aluminum board.
