Activision cans Ghostbusters game, I smell Bullcrap.

Check out the news listings on the game website. Although it is dated the 24th, and is promoting the game's demo at Comic Con, note that it says “the eagerly anticipated game due out this October.”

A few things:

1. This is the first time I've seen October listed as the month for release by the game folks. All I'd ever seen before was Fall, and October was from other game sites.

2. If it's so eagerly anticipated, it just can't be cancelled, and they would have to know it would be bad publicity all around for a delay.

3. If there were rumblings about cancellation/delay, you would think they would have taken such a statement down from the game's site, or not been specific about October at all.

I'm becoming less and less worried.

The game has had a target release date of October 21 2008 since the Spring.. along with the Blu-Ray release.

Yeah the date's not just Gamestop, its on Amazon and IGN as well. Anyway, here's an update:

“Activision says Ghostbusters is not canceled. X-Play talked an Activision Blizzard spokesperson who emailed: ”Regarding Ghostbusters: The Video Game: First and foremost, the game is absolutely not cancelled,“ but added: ”In general (including Ghostbusters): The company is reviewing its options regarding those titles that it will not be publishing."

as far as i can tell from all the information ive read, a delay is inevitable … *sigh* this blows

well, the game is not cancled, and ya know what, i dont see why, other then some tech issue, it would be delayed, im sure there are other publishers willing to snatch it up, i know zootfly would jump at the oppertunity, and sony by far is not going to let this slip into nothingness, so, for all we know, sony might publish it themselves.

that said and done, if the game is near going gold, which it should be by now, just going through the de bugging process, i see no reason why it physicaly cant hit shelves in october!

Also, with all the support the game is getting from the fans, activision by far is going to take that into consiteration, and i doubt there that stupid to delay a sure fire money maker for them, esp durring the holiday season

hey, its actually not that bad, a delay to find a new publisher, is actually not that bad to cancellation sure we have to wait a bit longer, but someone is going to pick up, as peter himself put it :

“The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams.”

the frank truth is that this game stands to make its publisher alot of money, although its nuts activision is kinda throwing that money to someone else, but hey their business plan, not ours, but we will get our game, I am sure of it. its just a matter of time. it might be 2 weeks or 2 days or 2 months, who knows, but its better then cancellation, and Terminal Reality sure isnt going to cancel it, not at all, not after all the hard work that gone into it.

check gbfans.com for updates too, they have a little note from Terminal reality about it.

plus activision is helping Terminal Reality find a new publisher for the game so it shouldn't be that long.

dont get me wrong. im completely and utterly thankful that it isnt being cancelled and all we might see is a delay. but still, like you said the publisher of this game is gonna make quite a bit of pocket change … why would activision wait this far into the game development to decide to not be it's publisher? it doesnt make any sense to me.

Maybe they dont have enough resources to publish their title's and the busters.

could be any number of factors, maybe they are worried it will turn out like their previous ghostbusters endeavors, maybe someone else already said “we would like the gb property” maybe they consulted the star patterns and it said “thou shall not publish ghostbusters” any number of factors, influences, market conditions and what have you could have motivated this.

hell it could be as only_zuul said, maybe they dont have the money or the resources to publish it

Well, ok, how long does it take to find a publisher? how big of a delay are we talking about, weeks? i can handle weeks no problem. A month, yea, ok it happens, but i get time is needed to print up new posters with the new publishers logo on it, but multiple months, half a year, for some coporate bullshit? give me a break man.

Im not too sure how long it takes to get a new publisher. i mean, common, its friggen ghostbusters, im sure there are buyers out there! but, i as a fan, as someone with some knolwledge into how movies and games are made, let alone a major video game based off a movie, i would like it if i, the fan wasnt viewed as a moron, and was told what exactley what was going on, because, at the end of the day, its US, the fans, the gamers, who are going to suffer!
