I just read the Game Informer article about the new Ghostbusters game, and it looks SWEET. The problem is, I'm not a “gamer”. Most video games by and large (especially today) bore me to death, no offense. Haven't really played in like four years. ANYWAY, the point is I really want to see this thing. It seems like the biggest thing in Ghostbusters since XGB, and like Dan said, it basically IS the third movie. I would feel really cheated if I missed out on it, just because I don't wanna shell out hundreds of dollars for a system & one bloody game.

So basically thats my little rant (mind you I'm not angry though). I'm just wondering if the Powers that Be are going to make this story, or “movie” available in some other way that doesn't involve ‘gameplay’. Preferably I would like to see them release the movie scenes (I'm assuming thats how the story will be structured and executed: with movie scenes interuppted by plotless gameplay, like other games) on DVD; edited together as one complete piece. At the very least they should make Aykroyd's & Ramis' script (which I hope is feature length-ish) available online or something.

Like all of us ghostheads, I've been waiting almost 20 years for “GB3” or something like it to happen. This just isn't what I expected or wanted, and I really really hope I still get to enjoy it somehow….

I could see your frustration. That said, you have a year. The movie is likely going to arrive on Blu-Ray (high definition) at the same time the game comes out, so perhaps go with a Playstation 3?

Oh and let's not forget the “Spooktacular” going under, and them letting the cars ROT on their backlot, and the “Ecto-1A” imparticular get maimed at Universal…

Releaseing only the cutscenes as a ‘third movie’ could actually lead to problems as I've found it to be rare these days for the story to only be in the cutscenes.

As an example many years ago I got a DVD where someone had cut together the cutscenes from Resident Evil: Code Veronica… whilst I got the overall jist of the story, most of the battles that were part of the gameplay weren't present and any plot points that cropped up during the gameplay rather than in the cutscenes were lost… and it'd be pretty disappointing to be watching a ‘film’ of the cutscenes spliced together, and after just watching a cutscene leading up to an impressive looking battle it then shifts a moment later to the post-battle events because the battle itself was part of the gameplay.

It's unlikely that they'll release some sort of movie which stitches together the cutscenes from the game. There's just too much that'd be missed out to make it worthwhile.

I'm a big fan of the Resident Evil games and seeing only the cutscenes from Code Veronica would miss out masses of the story, as Kingpin stated. To do the same to the GhostBusters game would probably lose the important part of it - the interaction. Watching something is never as good as actually participating in it.

Can't you just get the pc version when it arrives and put up with it as a game? Maybe that'll reinvigorate an interest in games.

Well they could easily insert gameplay footage with some professional gamer playing out the action scenes, if indeed thats the case, which I imagine it might be. It may not all flow like a movie, but surely they could edit together something that gives you the entire story, without the unnecessary long stretches of game playing. I know there must be other ghostheads out there like me (poor, non-gamers), or even just casual fans that want to 'see' the next Ghostbusters, and nothing else, inexpensively. I think doing a DVD like that makes perfect sense, and they could probably load it up with tons of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff too; I'm sure we're all dying to see stuff like that. As long as they do something so I can still see this thing I'll be happy….

Considering I use a Macintosh, that probably won't happen. I wouldn't be at all opposed to playing it, the problem is, the only video game system I own is a first gen. Playstation 1 which I haven't played in years. And I'm not gonna buy a PS3, or X-box, or whatever consoles this game will be available for, simply to play one bloody game.

While Ghostbusters is a game I really want for the 360, I'm not only getting it. I've already got several games I want, such as Dead Rising and such for the 360, so its still something I'm looking into, the Ghostbusters deal is just a very, very big bonus IMO.

I'd love for them to take note of what LucasArts is doing for the next Star Wars game, The Force Unleashed. Along with the game, they are releasing a novel, a comic book, action figures, a reference guide and a role-playing game supplement, heck, even Legos.

Namely a comic and novel. May not be film, but its still something nice for the non-gamers.

This is easily the stupidest thread imaginable about the new game. Upset about it? Absolutely not. If you're not a gamer, deal with it. Either become a gamer for this game and play it, or miss out. After years of not getting anything new that was even close to this big, its unbelievable that people could find anything wrong with this. You don't need to buy a new game system, just buy the game for your computer and there you go.

Star Wars releasing all of that extra stuff is easy for LucasArts, its a proven marketable property. Sony wants to see if Ghostbusters is a marketable product again. This game is the first step in doing that. They're not going to pour hordes of money into this with action figures, novels, DVDs, role playing games all having to do with the video game without first finding out if the game will be successful on its own (which there's no doubt in my mind it will).

They're promoting it really well though, which is a good thing. They're going to re-release Ghostbusters at least on Blu-Ray if not a new DVD set. Just be happy we're finally getting something this awesome and don't complain.
