I use Layers usually (and with that image), but sometimes I do it all on one layer.
Usually I keep the line art in the background “safe from harms way” and create a multiply layer over top for colors and then another multiply layer over the colors for shadows and then draw the shadows by hand.
Once I am done like I said I bur the shadows and then do the highlights and boom more or less done.
I usually only do a single highlight, range 1 shadow and then a range 2 for the darker areas…too lazy to do any more..

Thanks, guys! I am going to color X-Cop when I get a chance. Soon. It's much easier to draw this stuff than it is to color it so I might post another drawing before I get to coloring anything.
