Can they go through red lights when they are on a bust? This is something I thought about from time to time. They aren't a state required organization so do you think they can? It would be kinda annoying if they wait at every red light while the sirens are still going off would't you think?

No I dont think so because they are not state service. They are private not public. Although if they good Venkman would use it just when he wanted to get somewhere in a hurry.

The Ecto-1 is still an emergency vehicle, though. Otherwise, there would be no need for the lights and sirens. If they have those, I would say that they get the same treatment as an ambulence or a fire vehicle.

Honestly, can you name a vehicle with emergency lights and sirens that CAN'T go through lights?

If you can, please tell. I can't think of any.

Here's an idea….check the Montage in GB1. When the Ecto 1 is peeling around the corner, can you see a red light in their direction?

In real life, they would be busted for obvious reasons. People get pulled over even if they have blue (or any color light bars) ordinarily.

I would think after the incidents of 84 and 89 that they might give the Ghostbusters that privilage. I mean if you had a gooey blood-sucking goul about bite your head off, would you want the Ghostbusters waiting at every red light between you and the other side of New York city? No, I didn't think so.

I would think that the GB are not allowed to go through red lights, but that the police don't mess with them because they are so well known and important to the safety of the city.

NO, because they are not public officials. The Ecto-1 is not an emrgency vehicle either.

If they aren't an emergency vehicle, then they need to take off the lights and siren. To me, that just doesn't make any sense.

Those two things placed on a vehicle make it an emergency vehicle. They send a blatant message: “Get out of the way! There is someone in trouble, and we need to get there, quick.”

In this realm of fantasy, I'd assume that the GBs have taken care of this whole problem with the city of New York. I'm pretty sure that the Ecto -1 in the movie was an emergency vehicle. I'm certain that the lights and siren weren't on there to make Ol' ecto look nice.

I think having the lights and sirens are illegal. And the red light thing is also illegal. They aren't goverment funded, or a necessity (like tow trucks can have lights).
