Danny needs several foils to work off of me thinks; he's always been kind of the uber ornate persuasion when left to his own screenwriting devices. It's only my stupid opinion, but I don't think he's ever completely recovered after what happened with the Blues Brothers sequel - not necessarily in a strict professional sense either. (How the film opens is a lot truer to Dan himself than people realize.)
There seems to be tons of Murray bashing around here too, on this board especially. ItÂs been said before, more isnÂt definitely better and despite what a lot of you have been saying - I think MurrayÂs career is entering its golden age with a lot of class and dignity. Sometimes you do a flick for money  hey, thatÂs Hollywood. Sometimes you do a flick as a favour for a friend here and there. I think BillÂs been remarkably choosey and in that has shown a lot of class. Yeah, he did a bit in Osmosis Jones and CharlieÂs Angels. HeÂs also done Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and more recently the brilliant Lost in Translation. Being in an ensemble does not equate to being washed up  if anything (in the right film) it means youÂve pretty much made it, you know? It's not about hot dogging it or hogging the screen.
ItÂs a big problem with comedians. Hell, it happened to Harold Lloyd, happened to the Howard brothers, it happened to countless Second City/SNL alumni (including Murray), and right now itÂs in the process of happening to Will Farrell. You canÂt drop the act or else youÂre crucified. (I also think Lost in Translation is very much in relation to MurrayÂs career as the opening of BB2000 was to AykroydÂs.)
(FYI: Chevy Chase really is a dick though. Like seriously, man.)
