Does Mustard Really Peel Paint?

When I was on GBFans I heard several people mention using layers of paint, then using mustard to peel and crack the paint. Does this method really have any merit? Because I want to try it but don't want to ruin my project.

I know you can use mustard for weathering purposes. You can smear some mustard over an area you want to paint, then paint over it. Where the mustard was you can wipe away after it dries. You can do the same with toothpaste I'm told. So I believe what they say has merit.

I've heard its true as well, but can't confirm firsthand.

And no need to get upset when people haven't responded after only 4 hours of the post being active… its not like people are just spending their weekends sitting here waiting for someone to ask a question.
