Does your trap really have to open?

The traps in the crystal store were just traps without the black cases…you know when they put the trap in the contanment unit the black case slips off and the striped part goes in.I dont know what the laser things being emmited from the traps were.does anybody?

I remember having a toy trap and when you stomped the pedal it opened because the cable was hollow and when you stomped on the peddal air was forced through and opened the trap.
What does it look like if you have a flash bulb in it and it goes off.

i think it should, its just another nice detial..
i think it would be easy you would have a momentary switch in the pedal, wire leading to the trap, and a motor with some linkages to the doors? or as SG1star said a servo

I would like to think of a trap that would work exactly in the order of the film: Pedal - open with light, Pedal again - close then smoke. I know it can be done with some considerable thought and design. My brother and I are beginning our propping adventures with considerable help. We have incredible options available such as an electrical engineer, professial welder, complete metal and electronic workshop, etc. We will work on a “working” trap.

there are plans available online in which to convert the toy trap (which opens due to air being forced into the trap when stepping on it). It envolves covering all the detailed parts with tap, and then spraying the whole thing black. Afterwards, removing the tape and adding details. I have though about doign this, but I think I would prefer to just build one. Making the doors open isn't really that hard. I have seen online though, people who have not only made the doors open, but also spew smoke and shake after it closes. It's all about spending money. Having the doors open may not be nessisary, but it's not that hard either.

Where are they at in evolution?
I did the plans for converting the RGB To Movie Trap it is really easy actually, its a lot smaller then the real trap, but its a cheap and quick alternative to building one… To find them go to the props section, then to the trap section
I like the idea of having the camera flash inside the trap…
have the doors open, have the camera flash, well flash, the flash would have to be on a delay so the doors could fully open… you want them to open quickley but not to quickley…
