NEW YORK – A homeless man was in stable condition Tuesday after two youths allegedly set him on fire in a Bronx apartment building.
The unidentified 57-year-old man sustained first- and second-degree burns on his right arm and back, Jacobi Hospital administrator Laura Ruotsala said.
Two boys surrounded the man just after 3 p.m. Monday on the fourth floor landing of a Nelson Avenue apartment building in the Morris Heights section, police said. Then they allegedly threw a flammable liquid on him and lighted a match.
Robert Talbert, 14, was charged Monday with first-degree arson and first-degree assault. It was unclear whether Talbert had obtained a lawyer.
An investigation was underway to determine why the man was targeted.
