Chad
Let's not spoil what should be an exciting time for the franchise.

Activision already did that for us by dropping the game.

Seriously I know where you are coming from Chad and I respect that but the game was picking up momentum. It was playable at comic con and I've heard nothing but good stuff about it. It already has promotion and a tagline. Not to mention the fact that there are a lot of other products that are coming up that are banking on the success of the game. I highly doubt the manga, the IDW comic, or the RGB DVD set would be coming out if the game was never announced. I seriously believe that the success of these other endevours (the comics more than the DVD set) depends on the success of the game. Of course WE are going to buy everything but we aren't the majority here, the general public is and they will only get excited for things like comics if there is something strong like the video game reinforcing the franchise into people's minds. It has been a LONG time since anything long term happened for the Ghostbusters and people have a short attention span.

Now I AM grateful that this is coming at all BUT I don't appreciate being jerked around and my patience is wearing thin. I also fear the other things, like the comics, will suffer from a delay like this.

Sorry, no. The success of those other endeavors has to do with those other endeavors, not the game. Legion was a good comic, that would've been received much better with a solid release schedule, The Other Side will not have that problem. The RGB DVD set dependent upon this? Seriously? No way. People know what RGB is. They wouldn't just find out about it cuz of the game. The other things will be plenty successful and so will the game. These ridiculous complaints and whining and complaining over things that aren't related really need to stop.

Actually, I do have to agree, had the game not been announced, I doubt Sony would have decided to let Time Life release the RGB on DVD, or the new comic to come out after that 88 MPH disaster.

Now, granted, I don't know if the games releasing in the fall would help either of these things sell, but I seriously doubt it'd hurt either.

I'm not saying the comics will completely fail because of a game delay, I'm just saying sales may suffer. Remember how long it has been since Ghostbusters has truly been in the public eye. Hardcore fans will buy up everything but sales to people who AREN'T us are more important because they make up more of the market. I said in my first post that the DVD set was less likely to be effected than the comics and that is true but RGB was only successful (not to mention only existed) because of the movie. Now sales of retro DVD sets have been good and I doubt RGB won't sell well but you have to think there will be an effect on sales because the game isn't out. The game is the “flagship product” so to speak and everything else happened because of it. The other companies are banking on the game putting Ghostbusters back into the public eye so that more people see their product.

this is just a major disgrace… its just false advertising to tell all the interviews and promos that it was slated for a October release. and then just all the sudden switch the news around. something smells funny. this all seems too sudden and spur of the moment, especially for something like this, to really sit right with me, but something else tells me im not going to be seeing the game for a long time, too. hopefully, they'll get their heads out of their rears and relaise what a big mistake it is. time will tell.

i'd just like to posit that, were there any truth to the ‘Bill wants half the money’ rumour, I very much doubt that the game would even have been begun. It HAS to be nonsense, no company would ever have greenlit a game with that hanging over it. It makes no financial sense whatsoever.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking the first time I heard that rumor, no game company would allow that, this game wouldn't have gotten the go ahead if any of them demanded 50% of the profits.

Oh for the love of…. It's not false advertising! Sierra was planning to release the game in October, then they merged with Activision and Activision decided not to publish the game. False advertising means intentionally misleading someone to believe something that you never intended in the first place.

“False advertising”… And I thought people had gotten as ridiculous as they were gonna get.

As we're all frustrated to varying degrees, I've been trying to look at it objectively in order to retain my sanity. lol

On one hand, companies generally produce merchandise based on if there's a market for it and how well it will sell. That's why we got RGB and all the kids' stuff we affectionately remember from our youths…“the movie did extremely well, kids loved it, let's make a cartoon and some cereal while we're at it.” On the other hand, you have the other group (directors, producers, writers, etc.) that work on getting a project out there for the love and integrity of the property, which is great when it happens! I realized that's why Stars Wars is so successful. Lucas seems to control most creative aspects of the franchise because it's his baby. At the same time, he's made that almost his sole living by selling SO much to tie into the films.

We have to sit back and understand this is all the nature of the beast. Some properties take off like crazy and see a generation or two of marketing appeal and hence, merchandise. The good thing is, most manufacturers out there that make this stuff have grown in leaps and bounds, in terms of putting out a quality product.

Ghostbusters is unique in a way. I don't think people anticipated such a devoted fan base, but we are. We're passionate. We want the game, and it's coming….sooner or later. What we need to focus our energy on is the overall renewed interest, no matter how short loved it is. We're (mostly) kids of the 80's and now working adults. Things will turn around. I'm sure over time we'll see more products and collectibles to sink our teeth into. We have the RGB Box Set, the comics, the Kurick figures….maybe action figures and who knows what!

I am foaming at the mouth for this game, trust me. I think we should just enjoy what we actually do have coming to us.
