Films on 50GB discs have been out for a long time now.
aaaahhhh… i was mistaken. i really haven't been keeping up with the technology until i picked up a ps3 a few months ago…. which is kind of strange, considering i'm a techie that produces HD content every day…

is it confirmed that both films will be on the same disc? the lady in the video mentions “set”… it's a bit fuzzy on the details. i'm REALLLY hoping that's the case… i would hate to see low bitrates just to cram both films on one disc.

….and lets also hope that the first film gets a new transfer. the transfer that was used on the green slime release had TERRIBLE blown-out highlights and amateur color grading fubars. laszlo would NOT be happy!

Well the thing is once Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters II are released on Blu-Ray I can't see it being done again until the next media format is released in about 10 years or so.

Have a look at this:- http://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Two-Disc-Special-Blu-ray-LaBeouf/dp/B000NTPDT6/ref=pd_bxgy_d_img_b

It is the 2 disc Blu-Ray set for Transformers the movie, both discs are 50GB with the film on one disc and the extras on disc 2, we deserve similar respect for Ghostbusters, not just both films and all extras on 1 disc.

I too hope that each film is on 1 disc.

Osborn, didn't they just do a HD transfer like a year or so for the HD on demand channels? I seem to recall Exoray posting a photo form it on Proptopia.

WOO HOO! like i said… i really haven't been keeping up with this stuff like i used to. i caught a few minutes of GB2 on HD cable a few months ago… looked great!

as for two movies on one disc… lets wait until that's confirmed from sony. BR is for a niche market… i really don't see them putting out “economy” releases at this point.

The sales list I had posted at Proton Charging spoke of a set with Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 together, and one with just Ghostbusters, but no Ghostbusters 2 on it's own (and it specifically said that GB2 wouldn't be available on it's own.)

So, it becomes a question of production cost. Does it make sense to produce a GB disc and a GB2 disc, and bundle them, but not pay the cost of packaging GB2 seperate, or mastering two different discs, one with just GB and one with both.

If I had to guess, I'd say GB2 is on it's own disc - that way, they have the option of releasing it later, if they want, whereas if they master a disc with both and then later want GB2 alone, they'd have to master a third disc of just GB2. So, until we hear otherwise, my money's on separate discs.

I think its time i considered getting a blu-ray player =s

I decided to sit out on the whole HD format war, and see if someone would emerge a clear victor, plus its easier on my wallet that way.

so do i buy a dedicated blu-ray player, wait for a possibly non-existant addon for my 360, or do I buy a PS3 and add to my already over burdened gaming console collection?

However they do it, I just hope that they put back the MST3K-like commentary where you can see the sillouettes. It was on the original disc of Ghostbusters, but they took it out for the green covered one. Hope they put it back.

This topic was inactive for about five months…

Unlikely it'll go back in. It was a great idea, but there were a number of longistic problems whenever the DVD was viewed on a widescreen, and as it never caught on with DVDs as a whole it's unlikely to resurface for the blurays.

I can do without the MST3K commentary thing, but I just hope that they have the trailers and documentaries that the original release had.
