Ghostbusters today

I used to visit this board years ago - never really posted much but was always interested in what people had to say about my favourite movie.

Anyway I thought I'd check it out today and see what Ghostbusters fans think of everything that has been going on lately. Back in the day on here, nothing new happened about Ghostbusters at all. People were just grateful to have had two movies and, despite being fans, thought they just had an interest in something obscure that no one else understood or care about. Hell people were amazed by such things as Mike D from the Beastie Boys wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt *once* several years earlier (OK maybe we weren't clutching at straws that badly but I remember hearing it a few times).

Today you see someone on TV wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt fairly frequently (especially on music channels). Here in the UK we have two adverts on TV with the Ghostbusters theme in it (one with Ray Parker Jnr himself). Of course, who can forget, there's also a video game coming out, with the original cast, that looks like it has been handled with such great care and a new story we've been wanting for so long. A third movie also seems much more of a certainty than an impossibility now (I'm even predicting we'll either see it next summer or the following Christmas - I'd have said “never” before). There's so much more than that, though - it just seems to be everywhere these days.

So where has all this interest come from? I've noticed it gradually building up for a couple of years now but I can see it going through the roof this year with the release of the game - who knows what will happen after that? The song topping the charts again?

Well, anyway, I just had to visit here again for old time's sake. It's probably the best time to be a Ghostbusters fan right now (even better than when the first sequel came out!) so let's hope the public interest in the series stays like this for a long time to come and that we finally get that third movie.

I'd say the fact that its the 25th anniversary, coupled with the resurgence in 80's nostalgia. That is what has brought Ghostbusters back into the limelight somewhat.

I don't think the song will be topping any charts again any time soon though… lol.

It never left, when I was on my way home from work a couple of weeks ago, I heard it at least 3 times.(*peter)

As for a new popular band presenting the Ghostbusters song it can be done but I would have it done and “updated” by the main man himself . But it would be nice or yes, even acceptable if durring the montage sequence a new and popular artist(s) converted their own version like GB2 did with Run DMC and have the original song play at the beginning? Just a thought though lol

I don't care WHO does it, it will never sound/feel the same as the original recording. I've heard MANY people try, but none of them even come close, it's either done A.) Waaayyyy, too fast, or B.) Without the same energy. Even Ray Parker Jr. doesn't perform it like the original studio version, which is kind of sad, cause', by far! that is, and always will be, the BEST version.(*peter)

And, as far as “updating” it (as it has been, every year since ‘84), I think it’s GREAT! the way it is, and as the old saying goes, “If it isn't broke, why fix it?”

That had to be some sort of contest or call-in request or something.

I haven't heard that song on the radio, outside of around Halloween, in years. Its not an overly popular song anymore, so its not played often.

Did you hear it 3 times in 1 day? Or in 1 week? And do you work odd hours or something?

Maybe the DJ just really likes the song, haha.

I'm just curious, cuz I don't think many of us are in the same situation where we could click on the radio and hear it.
