Have there ever been any calls to make a sequel to Groundhog Day? If not, why not? If so, why has nothing ever come of it? Anyone have any answers?

What do you think would happen in a sequel?

A sequel? That wouldn't be a good idea. For one thing, Bill Murray doesn't seem to like doing sequels. He was the last holdout to do GB2 and he probably won't do the Charlie's Angels sequel.

Second, where do you go from the original? The movie was about a man given all the time in the world and finally making something of it - there's really nowhere to go with the story. Any sequel would just be a reiteration of the original. And if it was just a repeat of the original with someone other than Murray or McDowell, it wouldn't work without Murray's restrained delivery and McDowell's complementary dignity in her role.

Well the movie could focus on Bill Murray's character Phil Conners who doesnt seem to have learnt his lesson. Maybe he split from Rita because he went back to his old ways again. Maybe he's even worse than he was previously. It wouldn't have to be actually on Groundhog Day this time. He could keep waking up in the worst day of his life. Somehow he manages to turn it into the best day of his life and he finds another love. Anyway, dont you think Andie McDowell's character in Groundhog Day was kind of a slut. I know she didn't come across as one in the movie, but in the end she slept with Phil on the first date, and she'd only known him for two days! They couldn't have spent the whole day together either as Phil spent it running “errands”. So there's my case. Andie's character was a total slag if she sleeps with guys shes known for less than 2 days.
