Gun grips

I am having some trouble making the gun grips for my proton gun. I'm familiar with what the different plans say to use, but I'm wondering if any of you found creative ways of making the grips. I know I heard something a while back about someone making the grips out of PVC piping? If someone knows how to do that, I'd be very interested as I have tones of PVC left over. I'm also curious to know if someone simple made theres out of foam or what not. If so, what would I need to buy and what would I have to do with it?

I saw something on some plans that said something about buying a thing of oil that has a grip on the bottle and it works….or something like that…just look at all the plans on ectoman's site..

on my last pack i used bike grips, i read some where you can use a steering wheel cover. the thing in norms plans is gumout, its in the automotive dept at walmart, you have to cut out a little bit of the canister, but thats it.

i used pvc pipe cut to length and white sculpey clay (you could probably use and air drying clay too). anyways, i sculpted the grips to look like those from the movie and to fit my hands. then i baked the clay as per the directions in the oven on the pvc pipe to maintain shape. the pipe gets a little soft, but that's about it. then i removed the grips, secured them back on with epoxy then dipped them in plasti-dip. worked great for me.

I am familiar with the oil method. That was mentioned in norms plans. But that just seems like too much of a hassal just to glue some pieces of plastic to my pvc. As for the guy who mentioned the clay. Is that prone to cracking a chipping. What I mean is, when you bake that, is it just hard as a rock. Also, what is that kind of play called and where can I get it?

The stuff you want to get is called Super Sculpey. it's about 8 bucks a box at any craft store. It's good stuff, not as brittle as you'd think.

I sort of came across a pair of grips (okay, I went to a bike junkyard and scavenged them off a 1962 Schwinn bike) that were almost exactly the same as used in the film. They are black rubber, “okay” shape (what can you expect for 40 year old rubber?), and have the right texture.

I've been thinking about resin casting them and producing a few copies, but first I'd like to get an idea of how much people would pay for a set of resin grips ($10 sound okay to everyone for 2 grips?). If you want some, email me at JVandergriff@kc.rr.com so I have an idea of how many sets to make.

The tube they'll fit on to is 3/4". If you want a different size, let me know when/if you order them.
