Interesting question about fanfics...

So, I understand why new approaches are taken towards the old material. But I've read some fanfics (and maybe a GB3 draft here and there…not sure though), and the tone of these fictions are completely off. I can't recall any specific examples, but I recall many a fiction dealing with heavy gore, violence, etc. The biggest complaint is the fanfics that aren't even COMEDY. They're taking the GB's seriously- which is NOT what Ghostbusters was about, folks. Don't get me wrong…I've enjoyed the fanfics…and being that its “Fan” fiction, the fans are entitled to write the characters and situations however they feel. But what bugs me is when people try and pawn off REALLY lame ideas for GB sequels. I've read countless posts containing messages something to the effect of: “Why won't they make a new GB movie? I have the best plot idea…” And it continues to talk about characters being killed…vengeance, blood, death, destruction- serious stuff folks- for a totally comedic subject. I'm not bashing violence…I mean, hey, Paul Verhoeven is my favorite director smile …but try and remember that Ghostbusters is situational comedy. Jim Carrey would be at home in the GB universe…not Russel Crowe smile Now…anyone got a TRUE comedy fanfic?

It's extremely hard for a fan devoted enough to write a fan fiction to write one that doesn't take itself too seriously. Just look for the ones that insert some comedy in there, amongst all the seriousness. I see what you mean, it's just very hard for some fans to do.

Well, write a comedic fanfic then.

You have to find the humor in a serious situation not just have characters running around like idiots. That's how the film worked and how a lot of the fanfics here work. As for fanfics having a serious side to it, I don't mind that at all. Some of the best fanfics have been serious, like Twister's Blade of Insanity.

I get where he's coming from, though for some people its hard to write a fan fiction fully of comedy but for others they'll may to comical that it would be too silly for those to read.

Me, for an example, if you read My fan fictions, they're all serious but i tend to put some smartmouth comments but most of people's aree going to be violent half of the time which its not bad nor good aswell but if you enjoy reading others fan fictions, it doesn' matter how violent or silly it is, and you give a good solid rating, there' noting wrong with that.
