More than live-action movies?

Should there have been Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters movies?

I say yes.

Real Ghostbusters could have made “The Boogeyman Cometh” into one and Extreme Ghostbusters could have made “Back in the Saddle” into a movie.

For the record, they'd be straight to video/DVD, not in theaters.

But this is just my opinion. What do you think?

Despite being the huge fan of the animated series as I am, I don't think it would've been all that good if movies had been made out of the episodes.

The stories were good and hit all the right buttons, to try catch that lightning a second time around with live action would be very unlikely, especially as the writers would have to fill in the gaps as one 25 minute episode (Boogieman), and two 25 episodes (Back in the Saddle) wouldn't be long enough for a whole movie.

And it wouldn't make much sense to have Back in the Saddle be a movie if there wasn't the preceeding stories to back it up.

Same could ultimately be said for The Boogieman Cometh.

If they were to do any sort of movie spinoff of either cartoon, it would have to be animated, and it would have to be a brand new story, not a big motion picture adaptation of an existing one.

I for one would love to see something like that.

I'd be happy with an original direct to dvd animated Ghostbusters movie, RGB, EGB, or something new. All are good. But not big screen. It's not needed.

Yeah, direct to video would be a good way to go. DTV movies of Batman, Scooby Doo and Looney tunes have been made and they all seemed to have moderate success.

Back in the day, yea… I think this would have worked.

To get all the actors back together, and write a story that would work well given the lapse of time (although with cartoons maybe you don't have to have that).

I just think its not profitable or successful at this point, as there's not a huge interest in these cartoons that are over 7 years old. Yea people wanted the DVDs, but a lot more production has to go into a new feature and I don't think it would work at this stage of the game.

I always thought GB played a lot like a comic book series in that it works very well when made into an animated anthology (such as RGB).

I think the series needed some time away for people to get hungry, but with a new movie, the video game, the RGB on DVD and other opportunities, I think this might be a good time to make a new animated series.

I've always imagined XGB's first two episodes and the last 2 episodes (“Darkness at Noon” and “Back in the Saddle” respectively) could be stitched together as a movie, with clips from other eps as a midpoint montage with an extended version of Jim Latham's take on the theme.

Or even “The Ghost That Feeds”.
