After looking at all of IGNs photos, I keep getting more impressed when I see the newer pics. It looks more polished and looks more “next gen”.

So here's an interesting question - Do you most look forward to the gameplay or the story? (for the purpose of this question, you can only pick one).

Picking one is like picking my right arm over my left arm… But I'd have to go with gameplay just because it is a game first and foremost. If the story is awesome but the game play is awful/buggy and the like I'll have no incentive to play it through more than once.

And you know this how?

1) I think it's a fairly safe conclusion, why tease us with quite a visually rich style only to take a retrograde step back for the final product? (and the older stuff looking like a 20 year old movie is not a legitimate reason)

2) Skanker has pretty much confirmed it'll be the style for the cutscenes.

Because there's a small clip with dynamically lit footage on an obscure website?

Three clips, Stay Puft, “Your Cue, Killer” and a shot in the museum. All of them may have been on a “obscure” website, but since when did that undervalue the legitimacy of that bit of footage?

There's a difference between saying “that's not how it's going to be” and thinking “it's a safe conclusion.” One statement insinuates that it's a fact, the other is making an assumption.

And I disagree.

Skanker hasn't confirmed or denied anything. All he said was that it was the same character models when people were complaining that Stantz didn't look right in the supposedly “newer” footage - three short clips that were split up with shots of the gameplay.

Plus, the video with Alyssa Milano, which is the newest “official” video, still uses the older style.

Ok, so Skanks, if you're listening, which is the closest to the final cinematics? I can't see how that's breaching any secrets since both are already in the public domain.

it seems to be causing some consternation, so…

I'm betting the cinematics we saw with the new renderings on the “obscure” website is going to be the ones we see in the final product.

I always thought the older cinematics looked unfinished and I'm really digging the better lighting and polish of the latest rendering pass.

The Alyssa Milano video as well as the 3 “Rules” trailers were all produced for the “old” 2008 release date, w/out the updated visual polish given to the game since the release date changed to June '09.

The changes to the cutscenes/overall visual style were talked about in this post (and throughout this thread):

i'm assuming that Alyssa Milano footage was taken a long time ago and edited back then as well with the old footage, even before the GCHD vid.

I would like to say I think the GCHD video is official as well, Atari had to release that video to them. Its not like they made it up.

In my opinion, the GCHD is the latest version of the game we have seen so far. Probably even more newer than Rule #3.
