Okay how do I get past the first level of the game?

Please do not laugh at me, but it is true I can not get past the first level. Anyone out there want to give me a hand. I would appreciate it, but no cheats please. I just want tips, and hints.

:d You have to menuvere your way through the library and find the apparition and go up to her and use your p.k.e meter and she will chase you then the level is over after that your in the fire house
