I seem to remember reading that the syndicated episodes of RGB are considered the second season. Is this the case? If so I imagine that the rest of the syndicated episodes will be on vol.2 of the DVD set.

It's actually an area of some disagreement. The syndicated episodes aired at basically the same time as the 1987 episodes on ABC (the syndicated on weekdays, the ABC ones on Saturday) but were written first (and, inside the show's continuity, are pretty clearly established as taking place before ABC 1987 by “Janine, You've Changed”)

I've seen lists where the syndicated episodes are considered Season 2, and the ABC 1987 episodes are Season 3. I've also seen lists where the syndicated episodes are considered part of Season 1 and the ABC 1987 episodes are Season 2. It pretty much depends on what list you look at.

For what it's worth, the DVD set follows the latter system, considering the syndicated episodes as part of Season 1, and the 1987 ABC episodes as Season 2.
