Shouldn't the ghostbusters be rich?

Does anybody else ever wonder how these 3 characters who seem to have invented the proton pack which is an amazing piece of equipment are not recognised in the films as geniuses. Surely the military might want to have this equipment or the police. They have invented an amazing piece of weaponry and nobody else in the film seems to notice that they must be masterminds. I know the film aint supposed to be completely realistic but all seems quite possible in the film (except for stay puft) except for the unreal fact that they have this amazing equipment and nobody notices. What does everyone else think??????????

You can't forget the fact that a lot of people (in the first one at least) didn't believe them and figured it was just a light show. And with how controversial they seem to be some could see why the gov. might not want to get involved.

If you recall at the begging of the second movie, they were “sued by every city, county, and state agency in New York”

They would not want to sell the equipment because they own all the rights and if they sold equipment others could be competitors in the ghostbusting industry

My question is, why would the police want this equipment anyway? Or even the army? Gozer came buy, four guys took ‘er down, so why does the military need a whole platoon of these guys?

Also, if you’re implying that someone might want them to work for them due to their being masterminds, ghostbusting is a pretty demanding job. That probably would have happened after GB2, since they re-made their good name, unlike GB1, where people still thought they were, as one kid said, “full of crap.”

The Ghostbusters will always be in debt. They have to pay for the containment unit, and upgrades on the proton packs.

I dont belive that its so much the debt but the interest on it and the monthly electric bill for the grid, that must have quite a few digits on it.

I wonder the same thing. But you have to admit that the idea is pretty farfetched.I mean, how could three scientists create such powerful weapons that not even the military has access to? And the government has tons of scientists working for them. It's highly unlikely that three college researchers can come up with such advanced technology. If so, they would be working for the government.

Well, it all depends on how many fingers Egon decides to hold up when the customer has to pay. smile
