Venkman... From Iowa?

Okay… so everyone knows that I'm a proud Iowan… but upon watching “Cold Cash And Hot Water” (Vol 2, Disk 4), Venkman says to his dad, “You go back to Iowa and settle down,” followed by, “I sent him back to the farm.” So… had anyone picked up on this? A follow up question: does this count as actual Ghostbusters cannon?

It would definitely count as RGB canon, but not neccesarily movie canon.

On the other hand, Venkman calls himself “The kid from Brooklyn” in “The Bird of Kildarby”. He mentions an Uncle Alf in “Collect Call of Cthulhu”; I always assumed that Uncle Alf was Charlie's brother and he owned the farm (which is why Peter tries to get him to go back there and settle down).

But as Ben said, it's all freely ignored if you're a Movie Purist.

Do you think it could be that his father's originally from Iowa, moved to New York and it was there that he started scamming from coast to coast? Just thought.

Well much of the real ghostbusters cannon is also the movie cannon atleast the family part. On The Real Ghostbusters Box Set, Richard Mueller states that things like Winston's dad, Peter's dad, and Ray's aunt Lois are movie stuff as they are part of novelization book of the first movie which Richard Mueller wrote (watch the “Venkman's Ghost Repellers” Commentary).
