Like a few other people have pointed out on the Matty forums the PKE Meter was sold for 1/3 of the price of what some prop builders were saying it would cost. So if Matty could do it again and do a $1000 typical build Proton Pack for a 1/3 of the price again, then hopefully we would be looking at around $333.33. Also all the Matty gear is made in china where costs are lower.

Like Russ5144 say's:-

1-Proton Pack - in the neighborhood of $300 give or take depending on features… a lot of people are complaining that a full pack in that price range is unrealistic & crazy because they spent $1000-$1500 building theirs.
I too, have built a pack, & it cost me around $1500… a lot of that cost was the shipping and paypal percentage fees of each individual part I had to buy on various message boards & ebay from different sellers; Matty won't have to worry about that cost, as they will be producing all parts in house. These parts include clippard valves, hat lights, pneumatic tubing, & spectra strip/ribbon cables, that would all be mass produced in china for pennies.. these are all parts that normally cost builders up to $50 each. Electronics could also be done on the cheap by Matty, while it normally costs builders $200-$300 for a full light & sound kit.
Also, keep in mind that it costs over $500 to build a PKE meter between the shell ($90-$200… yes I've seen pke shells go for over $200) & the electronics ($300-$400).. Matty was able to offer us a good one for $60 (it probably cost them under $10 to make it.. why did they not sell it for $50 then? because they knew they could get $60 out of us, as well they should!)
Anywho, I'm rambling now… so a full pack for around $300, or maybe even just a “Neutrona Wand” for around $50-$100?

2-A Ghost Trap for $50-$100 depending on features.

3-I guess the Goggles, though, I really have no interest in the goggles, so under $50.

I would think that an accurate proton pack would require more licensing rights due to the number of factory made parts… The thinness of the motherboard could pose some problems… but the part I really can't wrap my head around is how would they pull off a plastic Alice Frame?

Personally, I thought the Giga Meter would be the next logical step. It's small, motorized (motorized props are harder to make, meaning less people have a replicas of these props), and the basic tech for it is already used in toys. …Maybe they figured the more basic GB tools would be more popular (i.e. sell better).(*winston)

Of the three, the Trap and Goggles are to more logical choices…

The Trap contains motors and lights making it hard for people to replicate. It's smaller, making it theoretically cheaper (thus more likely to sell). Durability would be my chief concern (particularly the pedal, handle, and cables).

The Ecto Goggles are made up of parts that are very hard to obtain and still unidentified. Lights and sound are pretty much optional since they're only enjoyable to the person wearing them. This is probably the least popular choice but would be the easiest on the wallet. For these reasons it gets my vote.

That Matty even mentioned the proton pack as an option to the fans is a very good sign that believe they could pull it off, I'd say. The pricing is a bit of an issue, but I think Matty could manage to make them for $400-600, and I'll bet there'd be plenty of demand at that price range. What the naysayers seem to be forgetting is that Matty has already made proton packs, albeit to the scale of 12“ figures. But their accuracy is damn impressive for that scale, and it just goes to show that Matty knows the design of the proton pack pretty well.

To address the issue of licensing the individual parts, I noticed on the 12” scale proton packs that the Clippard parts say “Shippard” instead, which I guess lets Matty get around the licensing fees. If it has to be made entirely of plastic, I'd imagine there's sturdy enough plastic pipes or tubes available to construct a strong ALICE frame from. I wouldn't underestimate the Matty design and construction team; they've done a fantastic job so far on all of the prop representations, even if only at a smaller scale(and the PKE meter of course). I've had to give some time to understand what your exact point was. A 12 inch scale Proton Pack does not make a full scale one more likely to happen. It's not like they made the small one from a 100% accurate CAD replica which they can then use on making a full scale version.

and it just goes to show that Matty knows the design of the proton pack pretty well.

It doesn't mean they'll be releasing one.

I'm no expert on toy production, so I admit that I could be wrong about this. But when you look at the level of detail that went into the 12" packs, I don't think it's a stretch to say that the research and logistics that went into creating those could help them somewhat to create basically the same thing simply on a larger scale. But I can understand where you're coming from; building the packs at a 1:1 scale would undoubtedly require a lot of adjustments such as more complicated electronics and even sound.

We can all only speculate at this point, but I'm taking it as a good sign that Matty is willing to gauge the interest of the fans for a proton pack. We'll just have to wait and see whether or not Matty thinks they'll be able to produce them at a price that they believe will sell while still turning a satisfactory profit.

Alas, after many years of retired GB collecting and prop building I'm back into it, HEAD first. I actually had no idea that mattycollector had this new line. SMH at myself, I have alot of catching up to do, and alot of reseller prices to follow. But good to be back.

I got teh PKE Meter from Mattel and voted on their boards for a Proton Pack first when they asked if we want a pack, goggles or trap next.

The majority of them are probably going to vote for a Proton Pack. But the thing is, what majority will buy if it the price isn't right?

I think they can do the props quite cheap, but are seeing how much people are willing to pay with this exercise of there's. I have a feeling the next prop will either be the Trap or Goggles, they would save the Pack till last. The shipping on those pack's must be a nightmare with the size and extra cost if going to other countries.

I'd be intrested in a Ghost Trap, the ecto-goggles not as much.
